Third Grade

Beaver Creek

Our philosophy in Beaver Creek is that all children have a right to learn and achieve to their highest potential. As a team, we help children to become the best they can be. We strive to create a collaborative learning atmosphere that brings students together to take responsibility for their own learning.

Literacy

Reading and Writing are connected through our use of the HMH Into Reading curriculum and novels. Students are exposed to narrative, expository, and persuasive texts that are fictional or non-fiction.  We spend a lot of time writing in response to reading as well as writing essays of a given genre. Fundations is taught daily for the learning of phonics and word work.

Science

We use the district-provided curriculum to teach Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science. We strive to use hands-on activities and group work to expose students to this learning.

Social Studies

Social Studies is taught using the Inquire Ed curriculum. We focus on discussing Global Connections, Migration and Movement of people, and Equality and Justice. Additionally, we integrate with Literacy when teaching about Economics.

Math

We encourage a lot of discussion and group work during math. We use the Bridges curriculum as a guide to learn about number sense through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Additionally, we discuss and practice measurement, fractions, area, and geometry.
